DV50 codec over firewire

Digibeta is 2:1 and DV50 is 2.5:1. A bit of a difference.

Only mathematically. Quality of compression algorithms can make a bigger difference than pure ratios. I’m not aware of any measurable or visible difference between DigiBeta and DVCPRO 50.

Yes, but that’s not the point. I only brought up the notion of DigiBeta as a benchmark to understand what DV50 is. The issue is not DigiBeta vs BetaCam compressed to DV50. The issue is whether it’s worth conforming his Beta masters to uncompressed. I would suggest that Tom do a test to see if it’s worth the effort. My guess is that he’s not going to see a difference.

Thanks for all the input. A test is exactly what I will be conducting to determine if an uncompressed conform shows any visible different on my broadcast monitor. I will post the results here, hopefully in about a week when I am at the point of finishing the project.
