October 21, 2005 at 8:04 pmWell no, there’s no real reason for you to upgrade. I sure wouldn’t if I were you. But for people with G4s, this might be a good time. For example, I bought a Mini 8 months ago or so to try out FCP. It did the job after making offline versions of my media, but I’m ready for something that doesn’t need this extra step.
You’re right though, we do get spoiled. Anything after linear is a huge step forward. -

October 22, 2005 at 12:48 amTaht remain to be seen. I would not assume. Many editors assumed AE was multi threaded. It was not.
Also, being multi-threaded does not necessarily mean the application will do 4 threads. -

I would not be surprised if the benchmarks Apple posted for the quad are biased but unless they are totally and completely bogus it does not remain to be seen.

October 23, 2005 at 10:45 amUpgrade from G4 to G5 now? Surely only if your machine was broken would you do that, with the new Intel machine not that far away? I’m surprised Apple are still selling G5’s in large numbers, or am I missing something?
