The Koutech ieee1394 PCIe card referenced in this thread seems to be working on the Mac Pro with only a few glitches.
My dropped frame issue seems to be OK now. I’ve ingested 3 half hour tapes with no problem.
However, if I put the Mac Pro to sleep with the card installed, the fans do not turn-off (the rest of the computer does!). Then when I wake the computer, the mouse continues to sleep. Sometimes an Apple-Tab keystroke will wake the mouse, but usually I have to unplug it from the monitor hub (Apple 23″) and plug it back in. Hopefully a firmware update will correct this, but the koutech website does not offer drivers/firmware for ieee1394 cards, it states that all necessary drivers are already built into Windows and Mac OS. Time will tell if this little bug gets fixed.
All-in-all, the FCP problem is solved. Thanks to everyone that helped me on this forum!
