Display Media To Start At 00:00:00:00 in FCPX?

We can’t use that because we need all the layers at the same time, with picture-in-pictures.

Multicam is more if you switch between angles, what we don’t need, and in the beginning we thought about using it, but we decided not to after some tests.

Well, we get by now, but we still have to do extra steps that we didn’t need to do in 7. And I just think X is limited in TC options. Not having seperate readers and generator, filters. Not being able to copy and paste into the dashboard. Etc.

That being said, working with compound clips DOES give us extra advantages too, so it’s not all bad, and I’m glad with our switch to X, but there are definately things X can do better that it doesn’t do now.
It’s not because I love X and switched to it -as well as let a complete company where I did freelance work switch to it with my reputation on the line – that I can’t be critical of some areas where I think they can do better.

1. Create compound clip with frame rate that ypur QT is.
2. In that empty compound clip put time code generator use duration that you need.
3. Use that compound clip as a overlay for any video in eny proyect sa your always start 0 time code…

• Display window frame count •
For the life of me I don’t get how to zero this out, if its possible. Every time I think about this it makes me google sniff for an hour, then I just get used to it. Why does the display show a cumulative frame count of (I assume) all edits, instead zero out for each project? Why would anyone ever want to know the total frames used over multiple edits anyway? The 85,492 frames I’m looking at makes me just wanna tape over it & just write 0. Thanks

In FCPX 10.2.3, create a new project, drop the clip into the project. Click on the project in the project browser and hit ‘modify settings’ in the inspector. In the dialogue box that appears in the centre of the screen, the second window down is ‘starting timecode’. Set it to zero. Is that what you mean?

I have exactly the same feelings about compound clips. I prefer to create independent compound clips so that I don’t accidentally effect other projects or uses within the project. Can’t you create an event in the EB and create a smart collection for compound clips so that they don’t make the EB a cluttered mess? I wish Apple would add the option to create a “nested clip” that functioned just like a compound but not showing in the EB as its own clip.

This is an older thread but I had the same problem and just figured it out (I think).

• First in the browser choose your clip, make sure you don’t have any ranges (Mark>Clear Selected Ranges)
• Press Control+P (on the Mac) and numerically key in your frame 4500 becomes 00:00:45:00.
• Press “I” to set In-point
• Press Control+P again and numerically key your end point
• Press “O” to set out-point
• Now grab the selection in the browser (it will have a yellow box around it)
• Drag it to your main timeline

I’ve found I don’t have to make compound clips or insert timecode generators.
