Using FCP X? That version doesn’t capture from tape via a capture card. HDV, DV via firewire, yes. But it doesn’t work with a capture card very well all at the moment, only allowing low end monitoring. There has been promise of allowing full quality preview out of FCX via capture cards. But they have said, plain as day, that they will NOT have any sort of capture/output interface with IO cards. THey will rely on people using the capture cards capture and output software to do the capturing and output.

So, you will need to use the AJA capture tool…if the IO LA even has one (very very old card).
