That’s totally true. Right now they have an offer an I could get the Production Suite (which is all I need) for double the cost of a year of creative cloud. I think is better to own the copy instead of a subscription is the difference is acceptable.
    Thanks for the input.

When I had to do a clean install of Win 7 the other day I was very thankful I had my Adobe Production Premium disks in hand.

[Joseph W. Bourke] “I don’t see it as a scam like Tom does, but I also like the security of spinning around in my chair, grabbing the discs, and re-installing if need be (which luckily I’ve never needed to do). My guess is that even if your connection to the cloud goes down, you’ll still be running with the Adobe subscription, but I like the security of having discs nearby. Just my take on it…”

I don’t think having the discs on-hand gets you all that much. Creative Cloud still installs locally to your computer, and it only needs to re-authenticate once every 30 days. Your install discs are no good without the authentication servers anyway…

There are a couple other benefits to Creative Cloud that haven’t been mentioned here:

Like Creative Suite, Creative Cloud allows you 2 installs (intended for one main and one portable system); unlike Creative Suite, the two Creative Cloud installs do not need to be the same platform.

Creative Cloud offers you some online storage space.

Creative Cloud subscribers get early access to some new features that Creative Suite owners won’t have until the next upgrade — see the new Illustrator Package feature [link] for an example.

    Lots more good information here:

I think Creative Cloud is worth consideration if you tend to stay up-to-date on your software. Personally, since I must collaborate with others, I generally have to stay current anyway. Back to the pricing discussion, most editors I know spend more on coffee every month than they would on their tools on this subscription plan.

Discs are no longer a good option. Even when I had them I will just make a digital copy of it and put the cd on a shelf. You can save the installer on a hard drive and it has been proved that the future of software distribution, if not the present, is going to be download.

Now, if you travel and need a back up just in case your windows dies that’s another problem.
Maybe in the future computers will be more healthy, and die less. Lol

I have an annual subscription on my Xmas list.

Honestly, I need the tools and I can’t really afford the out of pocket all at once for box set.

I like, that I can be current, that there a few extras exclusive to the cloud and the potential to community and collaboration it offers.

So this model makes sense to me…at least right now.

    🙂
