Maybe one of the Adobe people (Todd maybe?) will see this thread.

January 15, 2013 at 9:56 pmsorry… here’s the link
https://qubahq.com/2010/06/tutorial-100-accurate-reflections/
i should note that the process for the true reflections is fairly elaborate, involving 2 cameras and precomps, but it does give true reflections for 3d particle systems, and i assume it will work with raytrace 3d.
i don’t have cs6, but can you precomp the raytraced elements and bring them back into the main comp, and then use blending modes?
but reflections only would be a worthwhile feature…

January 16, 2013 at 11:14 amThanks for that link I’ll take a look at it later.
Yes, I thought about doing a pre-comp and bringing it in as a 2D layer with an add or screen mode, but went with the cheating ‘copy & flip the text in the y-axis’ method instead. Not 100% accurate, but did the job.

January 24, 2013 at 8:54 pmHey Paul,
Sorry to bug ya (didn’t mean to bug ya), but can you drop me a line when you get a chance? tim@creativecow.net
Much appreciated, and apologies again for the interruption…
Best,
TimPS. Nothing official. You’re not in trouble. LOL

November 7, 2018 at 11:47 pmWell, that’s annoying! I Google “after effects 3d reflection only” and am brought to this thread, where I asked the same question well over 5 years ago! Oh well…maybe I’ll just do the job in C4D.

November 8, 2018 at 11:44 pmI still have to figure that one out. The empty space around your object is black, unless you use an environmentlayer. By using a green / blue environmentlayer and a color-key, you can isolate the reflection. But it certainly has its limitations
I never used the double-cam solution. But creating a null object at the position from the floor, link a duplicate from the object to the null and only changing the y-scale from de null to -100%
But the Environment layer might be a problem that can be solved bij mirroring the horizon. It all depends on what your wishes are
