Converting P2 to Quicktime w/o Computer

Can I do the same trick with a Vaio laptop (which has a PCMCIA slot) and the new Macbook pro with FCP.
I do have the Panasonic drivers installed on the Vaio. and now I’m lost. It looks like the folders are empty.
