    In Vegas, you can only get a single speed change (CTRL-Resize the clip) as the velocity envelope only applies to video in Vegas.

    Michael,
    Not sure if you’re already done, but nevertheless.
    Same question came from a paying client, he wanted to do A LOT of NTSC-Pal conversion for broadcast, and on a VERY low budget.
    I’ve tested Mpeg streamclip, and it can rip DVD content, transcode and convert from NTSC and Pal.
    Experiment with settings (set scaling to HQ, frame blending on, do NOT deinterlace, mind your field dominance, adjust gamma if you need to edit in FCP, toy around and test)

    It looks way better than expected, and it’s for free. (well, you need the MpegII QT playback component if your source is DVD)

    And i’ve only tested on Windows….
