Conform FCP Red Project to Original R3D’s from ProRes Transcodes

Got it figured out. The reel name wasn’t the issue. It was the time code.

The EDL generated from the ProRes material was using Absolute Timecode. But when I imported the material into Resolve it was using the Edge Code.

Once I switched Resolve to Absolute (as Chris Kenny mentioned to do above) the media connected properly.

Chris – I misspoke about it not working. Turned out my whole problem wasn’t the naming it was the Timecode.

When I started a new project and set it to read the Absolute Timecode and reloaded my media into the media pool everything worked fine.

The EDL FCP generated from the ProRes files was using the Absolute Timecode, whereas I was bring in the media using the edge code.

I was so busy looking at reel names I didn’t even notice that until now.

Ah, so it sounds like you’re just using the wrong TC format like Chris Kenny was suggesting. Try (I guess just for experiment at this point):

Clear all media from pool
Under Master Red Decoder Settings (source) switch timecode to Absolute
Under browse, hit refresh on your R3D directory so it re-searches the TC
Import all

Then try conforming with your original EDL. It should work.

Can i jump in here and ask a related question? Hope that’s ok..

I’m working on a RED project where our camera guy has made prores files in redcine-x for me but then re-named them. Thankfully the actual R3Ds are intact as is in their original folders.

Due to time constraints i had to start cutting with the pro res he had given me.

Looking at the files in FCP they have a reel name (A002_C058_03082G)
and timecode – so does anyone know – will they be ok to re-link when we go to an online? Or do i have to re export and re edit….. (I really hope not)

Yeah I’ve done this once. If the timecode is unique enough you may even get away with not worrying about reels….

FCP will put the full reel name in the comments, but not in the field that Resolve will read. I’ve used TextWrangler to do some creative renaming and make it work.
