To round out the time trials, you’d need to try pulling a reference movie and a self-contained movie into DVDSP and letting it do the encode for you.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

    David,

When you do that, where in DVDSP would you get control over compression settings, filters etc?

    Have a wonderful day.

According to section 4 of this article, the render situation is as you describe. Worth the extra time? Pretty subjective call I’d say.”

It’s the “better safe than sorry” route. If you want to encode from your “already rendered” media to save time, just export a self-contained quicktime and then run it through Compressor. Exporting a self-contained will not re-render anything if you choose “Current Settings”.
