October 27, 2011 at 8:34 amSome interesting thing to ad is that the big cards really speed up heavy processing like NR.
But when it comes to normal grading nodes, you wont get better performance than a dual 4800 or GTX 470 can do.
So it really comes down to what you want to do and how.
Some facilities plan NR and such tasks to not be done during grading session, but over night.
Others what to have it during clients sessions.
But bottom line is, Don’t buy any Apple hardware now.
I am pretty sure the move to windows is due to Apples not move towards powerful machines.
A decent Hackintosh from today will be a great windows setup in half a year.A slice of color…

October 27, 2011 at 7:37 pmAll true, except, there still will be no ability to write Prores on Windows Resolve. A very big negative in my book…

October 27, 2011 at 7:43 pmI’m telling windows will be more costly as it seems to have more expandability and people will go crazy 🙂

October 27, 2011 at 8:39 pmFWIW, all of the unique cards that MacVidCards has created will work just fine in Windows if anyone wishes to move the cards there.
My GT120s, GTX285 2 Gig and GTX470/480 cards will work same as before with the exception that only 2 display outputs will be functional. So, S-Video ports will not work and neither will the HDMI port.
On the Quadro 5000/6000 I had to disable the center Displayport. Why? Have a look at Mac Q4800 vs Windows Q4800 or Mac Q4000 vs Windows Q4000. The Windows cards have more ports but the way Nvidia drivers are written means there is no easy way to address 3 ports. A costly decision for Nvidia, as it has meant that Apple versions of their cards need new PCBs in addition to new ROMs.
But using the cards for GPU is not affected at all.
To reiterate, all of our cards will continue functioning just fine in Bootcamp or even when moved physically into a Windows box.

December 4, 2011 at 12:14 amDave, I’d love to try out your 480 for mac, but for whatever reason, even registering at macvidcards doesn’t offer me anything but the 285… something about cross-border shopping or….?
