Colors not right after export
Posted by Jean Tertrain on May 12, 2023 at 12:34 pmDear cow people,
I’m trying to export a video from a .png picture (a song with an image), to a .MOV or .MP4 video file.
As you can see, the colors do not get right, in the export they are withered :
Is there a specific setting box I’m not clicking somewhere ?
A thousand thanks for your help,
Jean

May 12, 2023 at 5:20 pmHi Jean!
it is likely that the gamma output is not set to rec 709,
try to put in the color module a “color space transform” node and where it says output gamma, set it to Rec.709. let me know if that solves the problem if not try to set also the output color space in Rec 709.
I would also like to know in which color space you have the Input color, as that also influences the output color of the material.

May 12, 2023 at 7:08 pmHello Steven !
Thank you, but both solutions don’t work, the image is even still more withered now.
Where can I see what is my “color space where I have the Input color” please ?

May 13, 2023 at 9:41 amyou can display the configuration in color management, as shown in the picture. Another possibility is that instead of setting it to rec.709, set it to “sRGB”, I mean the previous solution, try with that color space.

May 13, 2023 at 3:02 pmHey mate, does the image look correct in you viewer in DaVinci in the first place? DaVinci has an issue interpreting images if their metadata has not the sRGB tag. If that is the case, what you cam do is simply import the png into photoshop amd then save it as JPG. That will add the proper tag to the image and it will be displayed correctly in DVR

May 14, 2023 at 9:50 pmto enter that setting you should click on project settings, which is right in the lower right corner of the screen. but if you have it by default and you have not touched anything, no need to go there because it will be correct, I recommend that you do the srgb change the image from davinci or as Ricardo has said, you can also do it through photoshop both options would solve the problem of color conversion in davinci.

May 15, 2023 at 12:15 pmHey, thank you Steven and Riccardo 🙂
I changed the color space to “sRGB”. Within the parameters, and by adding a node in the color page.
It does nothing, the image is still not faithful to the original.
It’s a cover album, so I would appreciate not to convertit it to a very compressed format like .jpeg.
I expect Davinci to read a format as universal as .png without any problem or complicate work-around.
Anyone here know the solution ?

May 15, 2023 at 1:34 pmIt is indeed the tagging issue. Use this jpg: https://we.tl/t-dI5cEghEjY
this will be correctly read by DVR.
