When I get done rendering I’m going to post a little demo for you… Its done using the 3-Way CC.

January 29, 2008 at 4:46 amMost DV cameras don’t even have this functionality. And when they do, it’s turned off by default. What camera are these tapes coming from? Someone is depriving you of the additional luminance range you get from DV format and loading in via firewire or sdi.
Or, by chance are you digitizing your DV tapes via an analog input like component. DV decks should of course add setup to the analog output, and strip it on analog input. The same goes for a card like your LH that has component in. On component in you should see setup, and it should have to be stripped to 0.

Via firewire Bret, hot off the press, from numerous Sony and Pany cameras.

You’re quite welcome. It really is astonishing to me how many people are not aware of this issue. Then again, if everyone knew everything, there’s be no consulting work left for me to do!

January 29, 2008 at 10:55 pmWell that’s just bizarre. Has anyone else seen DV come in with 7.5 ire except in the odd instance that the shooter decided to change the default setting? I think I’d have a little talk with them!
I get P2 stuff, miniDV, DVCPro, HDV, DVCam and have only seen it once. The facility was delibrately doing it to match their betacams on analog output. Of course, they then had to turn off setup on the output of their decks, otherwise they’d end up with 15ire. What a mess.

Honestly, no, it’s always been 0 in our experience.

As I was color correcting earlier today I actually paid attention to the numbers, and it turns out that blacks I was refering to are not at 7.5, but they aren’t at zero either, and thus do need to be lowered on almost all DV that comes my way.
