Color correcting in Sony Vegas Pro 13.

Yeah – I want to know what settings you used in Vegas Pro 13’s color correcting to make the image that you did. Screen caps, whatever. Any way you show me will be appreciated.

NB: This is a very simple approach that’ll get you started. I also add controls using the monitoring of the SCOPES, but thhis will get you started – yes?
1] Drag SONY Color Corrector to Clip
2] I use the “Custom Tab” and click on that.
3] The 3 Wheels correspond to the HIGHS – far right; MIDS – centre wheel; LOW – far left these are the blacks
4] First, grab the HIGH Complementary Picker and drag across that which you knew as WHITE.
5] Second, grab the LOW Complementary Picker and drag across that which you knew as BLACK.
6] Thirdly, grab the MID Complementary Picker and drag across that which you knew as GREY or neutral.
As I said, this SHOULD get you going, but please note I have also a range of colour correction and white balance tools which you may also wish to investigate:
* Fred Baumann’s White Balance AND Color Match ( most excellent!)
* NewBlue ColorFast – Truly a magnificent Masking Color grading s/w
* Red Giant Magic Bullet Looks.
NB: Colour Grading is both an extensive and intensive study. I have read books; attended seminars and seen many Tutorials.

I’m having a hard time trying to find or make the colors black and gray. You say to drag the circle over but there’s nothing to drag it too, dark color wise.

I’m not sure if I follow – I’m just following the steps you’ve listed above, and I’ve run into that snag with finding the dark and mid colors. That is, selecting “Custom” when using Sony Color corrector.

In all of this do USE the Eyedropper to establish the “numbers”. Do NOT follow by wrote the numbers I have generated otherwise you will not have learnt the value of the eyedropper tool and will get yourself in to a helluva pickle! Also, trading values/numbers here will be both tedious and time consuming for both of us.
Here’s the HIGHs. I’m using the background wallpaper or paint. This shows WHITE in another of your samples – yes?:
OK Seth try switching Step 5 for Step 6 – meaning do the MIDs before the LOWs. Here I am choosing that area of mid-tone next to the curtain – do you see?:
And finally the LOWs or Blacks. Here I have chosen the BLACK shirt of the individual:
Remember, in all these cases, click on the colour picker, eye-dropper Icon > move to the area in your Preview you want to USE as the sample Complimentary Colour. hold down the mouse button and “scrub” over that area, keeping to that range that BEST suggests to you what you want.
