Closed-Captioning workflow for broadcast within FCP?

Can someone please explain to me why the MacCaption software costs as much as a decent workstation? Almost all of my work is trafficked through an intermediary so I would only use such software to do favors, and have no interest in adding it as a service — I was considering purchasing it for a reasonable fee, but this is patently insane. It costs more than pretty much any other software only package, including Maya. I understand from the demo that the software appears pretty feature complete, but its simply not worth it and makes me think it would be worth it to simply hire a programmer to write me a Line 21 FCP plugin and sell that. It seems like there’d certainly be a market.
