Not old. Just jaded. 😉
I think 4K hitting the mainstream is 5-8yrs out. That gives plenty of time for HD ‘newness’ to wear off, prices to come down and delivery options to shore up. Plus I think camera and TV set makers will slowly stop manufacturing HD-only products just like they did SD products.
And like you said, most customers were be served fine by 720p but people go the ‘TrueHD’ route because of marketing… and keeping up with the Jones’.

December 3, 2013 at 1:46 amPersonally, even though I really like TV and movies, I don’t want to lose an entire wall of my living room to a big ass TV screen. It isn’t THAT important. 42″ is fine for me, it’s what fits in my TV cabinet too. I might go 54″ or so (the max that will fit) but I see no reason to have a HUGE TV.
But I guess I’m one of those people who doesn’t believe in centering my life around TV…it isn’t THAT important to me. I don’t have 5.1 Dolby or 7.1…but I do have a good stereo output.
I can see the benefit of 4K for computer screens, since we are that close to them. But I also don’t watch a lot of TV on my computer. OK, I lie, but the Mac Mini is connected to my TV…so I do watch from my computer…on my TV. I don’t sit at my desk and watch TV…I lie again. I watch THE DAILY SHOW on it. And have been watching Netflix on my Nexus 7. But my Nexus doens’t need to be 4K.

Come on, dude.
Man up and get a TV so big your neighbors can watch from THEIR living rooms.
But you have to make them spring for the Bluetooth headphones.

I don’t either… at least, that’s what my wife tells me. 😉
