[Mark Nacovitch] “.I actually paid 29 dollars for a one time call-Did me no good.”

You should be able to call them back and reference the same problem and thy should continue to help you until it is resolved. You should not have to pay again.

    I have the identical symptoms.
    – FX7
    – Sony Vegas 8 and Vegas 10c (tried on both)
    – Using internal capture
    – Video shot in HD, camera set to HD playback and iLink conversion is off

    Vegas sees the camera fine.
The capture utility’s controls properly control the camera
The capture utility shows the timecode from the camera fine as it plays (showing as 00:00:06:03 in the screenshot attached)
I get no picture in the capture window and it does not capture anything.

    Help?!!

Any chance you have a newer Dell computer? Someone mentioned an issue with the FireWire board.I even swapped that with the same results. This defeats the purpose of having HD equipment. Keep me posted if you find a solution.

Nope.. it’s a QuadCore HP which has no problem with any SD captures, and I’ve loaded HD onto it using another camera in the past.

On this same computer I have problems with the preview working properly with Vegas in the trimmer, or project/explorer windows to preview media clips… so I’ve wondered if there is some sort of driver conflict.. never found resolution to this though 🙁

I’m going to try using the FX7 on one of my laptops to see if I have better results.

BTW, I also tried to see the camera’s footage using Adobe CS3’s OnLocation, which I’ve used occassionally for realtime capture — no image.

grrrr… so.. it may not be a Sony issue.

Desktop I’ve been using is running Windows Vista Home Premium Edition (x32), DirectX Version 10.0, Vegas Pro 8 and Vegas Pro 10c.

I just tested using an older laptop. Windows 95, Vegas Pro 8. Identical results. Timecode changes in capture window, empty video preview .. and nothing captured.

Last test will be to use a newer Windows 7 laptop, and try a different Firewire cable (not that I expect any difference since that cable has worked flawlessly with SD capturing)

I have windows 7 64bit. I have no issues with dv footage. I got so frustrated trying to load and burn hd to blueray. Finally I just gave up. Not sure if it’s the camera , the computer, Or what. I have all brand new equipment also.

OK. I feel like a dummy now.

Apparently, although the FX7 was set to 16:9, I never switched it to HD when I was shooting — so my tape has *SD* footage on it, not *HD*. Because I had set the camera’s playback mode to “HD” instead of “AUTO”, it was forcing the HD playback which wasn’t producing any image; although timecode was detected by the capture devices, there was no image for now-obvious reasons. On the camera’s screen it also said something to the effect “HD Image Preview Not Available”.

Anyhow, that’s all squared away now.. I feel bad I shot in the wrong mode, but at least I know it’s not a configuration problem (yet).. will see what happens when I shoot HD on the cam!

    Dear mark

I work doing wedding and any kind of party
I use fx7 and v1u to record and sony vegas pro
9 to capture, i had the same problem but now i know how.

When you connect the camera and the computer reconize it, open sony vegas and i know it wont show the video on sony vegas when you press play but here is the trick.
When you press play, and as soon as you see playin the video on your camera, you have to press yhe REFRESH button on your capture window then it will show the video then you can press the capture button to start capturin all your HD data.

Yeah is odd but it works for me

    Hope it works you!!!
