June 5, 2010 at 9:24 amHello I just got the 5D. What is the easiest way to transfer the footage into final cut pro? I imported it but I have to render each file when dropping it into the time line. Is there any way around that?
Also I’m having trouble with the playback it keeps dropping frames. I closed all other aps and unchecked the limit on real time play back. I’m not sure what it is.
If anyone could help me out it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

October 20, 2010 at 4:58 amI’ve read the whole thread but I’m not sure what you mean by saying to use compressor in the background. I’m trying to use the canon 5d h 264 files in final cut. So would I drag them all into a fcp project and use compressor? I’m just not sure what to do so that I can edit them. They won’t play in FCP or Quicktime without stuttering a lot. Thanks for the help!!

October 28, 2010 at 11:48 pmVery informative thread!
I used the workflow outlined to transcode to ProResHQ in order to edit some 5D footage on FCP 6. Computer stats…
Model Name: Power Mac G5
Model Identifier: PowerMac7,3
Processor Name: PowerPC G5 (3.1)
Processor Speed: 2 GHz
Number Of CPUs: 2
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
Memory: 2.5 GB
Bus Speed: 1 GHz
Boot ROM Version: 5.2.4f1I chose Apple ProResHQ 60i as the sequence preset. No problem there or getting footage to playback properly in timeline (there was rendering required of the audio – I believe because the source audio was set at 1 stereo and the sequence at 2 outputs??) . I did a very quick test of some different video effects, some required rendering some didn’t. Cross dissolve did not require rendering but the effect causes stuttering of playback in the sequence (similar to what happens when I tried to playback native 5D H.262 mov clips in FCP). Any suggestions for why I’m having issues with cross dissolve?
Learning as I go here guys, not a editor at ILM so please forgive any mistakes or questions which may be obvious to the curmudgeonly old pros.
Thanks in advance and may you walk with the warm sun in your face and an easy tailwind at your back.

May 13, 2013 at 7:37 pmWill this program also work for Final Cut 6??
Thanks.
Why are the apple pro res files MORE MBs than the H264 raw files? They’re almost double!
