    Another way to do this might be to apply a screen recorder program to the same computer where you’re doing the timeline scrubbing. I don’t know if it will get the kind of resolution you want, though.

    I know the effect you’re going for, I did something similar a long time ago with some keyframed animation of a talking cow I did in Lightwave. I was able to “puppeteer” the output by hand-scrubbing along the timeline to get a more organic kind of motion, and in my Discreet Edit*6 days, once did some of this “DJ-scratching” kind of timeline scrubbing, while recording to DVC Pro via SDI. Then I would re-import that footage thru SDI back into my timeline for further manipulation.

    old topic – but wanted to give another technique: using a screencap program to capture final cut as you scrub. i do this often and it works great. i use screenflow https://www.telestream.net/screen-flow/overview-m.htm
