[Craig Seeman] “And for that reason some of us are waiting with baited breath to see what a reasonably acquisition and archive would be for the Panasonic HVX-200 DVCProHD”

We’re hosting an HD event here in Atlanta on December 7th and with any luck, we’ll have a 200 at the event. Can’t wait to see it!

[Craig Seeman] “To me HDV is a bad idea I’d wish would go away.”

    Amen to that.

after seeing the HVX200 in a hands on demo during Nab Post + (east),on Wed, I have an even higher expectation than I had before.

IT really does not care what format you think you need, the X200 can do it.
1080p24 /720p24 / 480p24 — this is going to be the ultimate camera for 2nd unit work, something that is going to be used by pro’s to cover action, or when you need jam a camera into an incredibly tight location, but still need to get “real HD” out.

The camera is much more than I expected it to be, (which was a lot), and it is going to be hot.

1080? Wow, I thought it would just be 720. So this thing will work equally well with the Varicam and the 1080 camera. Very Very cool!!!

. . . and how about 720p60 and yes with 1080 too this camera seems to be baby Varicam/Cine Alta in one tiny box. For those still dealing SD there’s DVCPro50 too. One flexible little might mite. Now this may not be the camera for wedding videographers for a while due to storage but for professionals it can range from a great “b” camera on broadcast work to a camera you can use on corporate jobs and local cable spots. Yes, it’s 1/3″ but they’ve packed nearly everything a pro could want at that size without having to bump to 1/2″ chip system and a larger body.

BTW, I was at NAB Post all three days (at the Telestream both a lot). Panasonic wasn’t there. Who was showing the camera/ which conference?

Don’t forget those moments when you must sacrifice a camera, on the one hand trash the Varicam on the other the 200, I’d go with the 200. Of course you would be crying when the Vericam hit the wall or the other car or what ever, with the 200 you would be laughing all the way to the edit room.

Keep in mind that over the last 8 years many many many broadcast and cable network shows have used the DV format. B camera thought the 200 might be, I anticipate it as the primary camera for the vast majority of uses.

Panasonic has really embraced the concept of gales of creative destruction, where you take the best of what you
