February 24, 2012 at 2:45 pmCongratulations! Make sure you go through the workflow for whatever editing system you are using so that you fully understand how the cards work. That is the biggest frustration for users of this entirely new system.

February 24, 2012 at 6:45 pmDavid, now you’ve taken the plunge there is one vital task that I urge you to perform. Get hold of a copy of the DVD by Vortex Media on which Doug Jensen goes through everything you need to know about the EX1 (don’t know if it’s been updated for the ‘R’). This is really important as it’ll save you hours and hours and prevent you making elementary mistakes if you’re new to the camera and tapeless work. I was given one by mr seller (we do things like that here in the UK!) but it is a MUST. Good luck, great camera.

February 25, 2012 at 5:47 amI’ll echo Michael’s advice about Doug Jensen’s DVD/Book. We got the EX-1R in 2010, and bought Doug’s Book (no DVD), and it was a great way to get started with the camera. At the time, the book was not updated for the -1R, but I don’t know about today.

February 25, 2012 at 10:16 pmThank you Ken, but I’m curious as to why you recommend the book and not the DVD?

February 26, 2012 at 12:39 amI can’t really speak to the DVD, either positive or negative, because I’ve never seen it. We only have the book. So I’ll limit my comments to what I know. We also have the book for the F-800 XDCAM, and I bring it with me on shoots as a reference.

February 26, 2012 at 2:07 amI understand. I was only asking because I ordered the DVD.
Thank you.
