Burning to DVD from 1920x1080P as source…

Hi John,

Sorry to jump in on this topic a year down the track. I am using Sony Vegas Pro 11 and DVDA 5.2.

I would like to know if there is a way to author and burn a Hybrid DVD (i.e. 1440 x 1080 footage onto a 4.7GB DVD) using DVDA? Otherwise, can I prepare the project in DVDA, then burn the image file using another application like Nero 12?

It appears that DVDA only has a preset to burn HD using Blu Ray, and SD using DVD.

I have a DVD burner, and a Blu Ray play capable of playing this sort of disc.

There was a time when DVD Architect could make these discs but I’m not sure if it still can. As you suggested you could always burn an ISO file with DVD Architect and then use a utility like ImgBurn to burn it to DVD media (I would never install Nero on one of my video editing PC’s)

I really don’t see any reason to make a hybrid disc in 2012 when Blu-ray burners only cost $89 and Blu-ray media us under $1 but that’s your choice. Make sure that in the future, you always buy a Blu-ray player that can play these non-standard hybrid discs. That’s pretty risky if you ask me and you would be much better off creating “real” Blu-ray discs.

Thanks for the reply and this helpful info. I agree to your recommendation regarding using Blu Ray media. I guess you can say this is just in the interim.

As the DVD buring software use the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS template, how do I go about burning the DVDA-created .iso file, and allowing the Blu Ray player to recognize as a Video Disc?

I noted your point about not installing Nero on your Video-editing pc. Are there any conflicts that Nero causes, or is it just personal preference?

You’re not making a DVD so there is no VIDEO_TS folder. You are making a “real” Blu-ray formatted disc and burning the image to DVD “media”. Only the media is DVD, the format is Blu-ray. This means that once burned, your DVD burner will not recognize the disc but your Blu-ray player will. If you use ImgBurn, there is an option called “Image to Disc” and it will take the ISO file and burn the image to the disc as long as the image is less than the disc capacity.

Oh it’s not personal preference… it’s personal experience. Nero messed up my editing PC because it secretly installed DirectX filters that took over the handling of video files and made some of my files incompatible with my video editing software. I even used the most barest of installs that was only supposed to install Nero Burning ROM and nothing else and it still installed the video filters. I uninstalled Nero and everything worked fine. Re-installed it and it was broken, so it was definitely Nero and I proved this on two PC’s. I would never install Nero again. It’s insidious bloatware.
