Buggy Capture after 10.3.9
Posted by Raynor Czerwinski on April 25, 2005 at 3:07 amJust upgraded to 10.3.9 and am pissed off.
When my gl2 is connected and in vcr mode FCPHD, and FCEX will not launch, when I turn off my camera the program immediatly boots. I’ve tried launching and then capturing to no avail… the program will not quit unless the camera is off…weird …never had this happen before. I’ve tried “updating prebinding what have yous” but that did not help.
any advice is welcome!!!Fx Bear replied 21 years ago 7 Members · 12 Replies -

April 25, 2005 at 10:32 amWhy’d you update to 10.3.9? Seems to be a lot of folks in this forum and others are having problems with OS 10.3.9 including yours truly. Safari, iPhoto, Mail, and others are all having problems on my Laptop and non-FCP G4’s since updating to OS 10.3.9. Since those are all Apple apps and they are screwed up with the update, 10.3.9 is going nowhere’s near my FCP systems.
Basically before you perform any OS update, you should check in here at the Cow to find out if it works with FCP or even some of your other hardware / software combo. Whenever a new update is released, I need to check the websites of about 20 different manufacturers of my software and hardware before updating to ensure that it will not cause problems with my systems. I can take a few weeks to a month before all of my software / hardware is approved and then the OS update is installed on my system.
Best advice is to re-install OS 10.3 and run the 10.3.8 combo updater and leave it at that. You can run “Archive and Install” so you don’t lose your apps and preference settings. I’m just going to wait for Tiger since it arrives on Friday and it’s just my non-FCP systems that are affected. Also ensure that your Software Updates are NOT running in automatic mode, run them in manual mode so you can decide when to update the OS.

> You can run “Archive and Install” so you don’t lose your apps and preference settings.i’m sorry for that might be a stupid question, but what do you mean by “archive and install”? is that an install-option or does it simply mean, that i archive my preferences and that kind of stuff and then install 10.3?
joachim, another stupid guy, who made the 10.3.9 update in the middle of a project. no more comments, please! i’m already angry on myself!

April 25, 2005 at 9:11 pmI upgraded to OS 10.3.9 on both my Cinewave dual 1 ghtz. G4 system and my dual 2.5 G5 system, upgraded the IO drivers and have had no trouble whatsoever with either of these systems/machines. I was even doing 1&1/2 hour SDI 10 bit captures on the G5 and multiple 16 bit captures on the Cine G4 with no glitches whatsoever. Maybe I just lucked out!!

April 26, 2005 at 2:10 amI had other problems with 10.3.9. I had some clips that went missing and had to reconnect them. Most of the clips did reconnect o.k., but two didn’t and I had to manualy select those two. Then Live Type would not completly launch even after reinstalling Panther. But now every thing is running smooth now that I’m running under OS 10.3.6. Is it just me or was the 10.3.9 update full of nasty bugs?

It’s not just you. This is one of the worst updates I’ve seen yet. Funny how Safari, Mail and even iPhoto simply don’t work right since the update and they’re all Apple products.
It’s an update like this that really shows you need to install and test an OS update on a non-FCP system first. My laptop and one G4 don’t work correctly right now, but at least my FCP systems are un-affected. Hopefully Tiger will install better on Friday.

April 26, 2005 at 5:54 pmIs the 10.3.8 update working fine for everyone? I’ve been stuck at 10.3.4 for a while now, but I’v started to have problems with my system and need to do a re-install. Should I go with the 10.3.8 update?

April 27, 2005 at 12:08 amI did have some minor problems with the 10.3.8 update. Right now I’m cruising along fairly smoothly under 10.3.6. I am not going to upgrade to Tiger until I know that there are no major issues.
