    Dear Carl,

    Thank you for your post.
Please let me know more about your adapter.
It seems like other 9 to 25 pin adapters that I’m already using.
    Thanks,
    Michael

“It seems like other 9 to 25 pin adapters that I’m already using”

    WHAAAAAAAAAT???

Don’t you think is “Kinda weird” the Addenda adapter is a LOT more expensive than a $ 4.99 “9 to 25 adapter” you can buy in WALMART ???

Is not $ 148 a lot of money for a vulgar “9 to 25” adapter???

Buddy, this is a serious protocol tranlator with active electronics inside, not a silly 9 to 25 pin adapter.

    In few words:

Do you want to control your Machine?

    THIS is what you need.

    Michael-

Don’t listen to any of them. Instead read page 23 of the Blackmagic Design DeckLink manual where it tells how to control a Sony UVW-1400a in Final Cut Pro using a Keyspan USA-19HS USB to RS-232 adapter (Blackmagic Design recommends this RS-232 adapter regardless of what Carl says – just read their manual):

    https://www.blackmagic-design.com/downloads/manuals/decklinkmacmanual.pdf

Who are you going to listen to? *I* listened to the designer of my Extreme card, Blackmagic Design, and bought a $35 Keyspan USB to RS-232 adapter and hooked it up to my UVW-1400a and followed the directions in the manual and it works great!

    Still don’t get it

If you use the addenda translator you are gonna take advantage of the FAR SUPERIOR Sony protocol (RS-242), mean better, faster and more accurate control. That’s why the Addenda adapter is so expensive.

The RS-232 solution is the watered down version.

But You all do whatever you want.

    The end. Bye

    Hi Carl,

Thanks for your post but this is incorrect information. The Keyspan adapter is the ONLY way that we’ve seen to make it possible to control an RS-232 deck when using a DeckLink card. We’ve had customers try RS-422 to RS-232 adapters and they just haven’t worked reliably.

Adapters from Addenda are very good but are not appropriate in this case. That is why we have documented the use of Keyspan adapters in the DeckLink PDF manual for use with RS-232 decks.

    Hi Carl,

The Keyspan adapter is the only solution we recommend based upon experience of trying to adapt the DeckLink RS-422 connection to RS-232 using a range of adapters. It doesn’t work reliably whereas the Keyspan USB adapters work brilliantly.

I looked at the manual link page 23 it details Setting Blackmagic Preferences
Preserving Blanking Data or VANC is this the instructions talked about in this thread. The deck also allows us to vary the baud rate of the serial port… this info is not detailed as to which settings on teh deck are best. I also dont see an specific reference to the keyspan adapter in the manual be nice if there was a specific tech note

I tried using the Keyspan and it just dosnt work. Black Magic really offers no support or “how to” so I haev to get my work done and cant play around anymore with this. I am ordering the addenda and it wil arrive this week. I will post my experience with it but so far I am VERY dissapointed with the threads that suggest that the keyspan will work with the UVW1400A.
