September 26, 2005 at 12:01 amIn going from Composer/Newscutter to FCP 3 I found that the “Lindy Hop” tutorial (A tutorial thats included with FCP, I believe they have a new one now) was pretty good for getting to know the interface and for a “Where did they hide THAT button” kind of learning experience.

I’d say learn the FCP keyboard layout, there’s just so much more functionality in it and by trying to avidise it much of the power is lost. Also, because the systems do things in subtely different ways, having keys mapped the same leads to unexpected results and confusion. In my experience of training people taking the avid keyboard map (and in some cases the avid keyboard itself) has significantly improved the speed of learning and familiarity with FCP.
