Best Subtitle Programs

I have made subtitles using TextUp2 by Spherico in FCP, then exported the sequence as XML. Using Title Exchange Pro I imported XML and exported STL. Attempting to Import into DVD Studio Pro results in window “incompatible assets”. Any suggestions? Thanks, Laura Cooley

Hello Neal,

I have a feature to subtitle in three languages (to begin with).
As the editor, I am also creating the subtitles. Do I understand from you that, working with FCP 7, on a two hour movie, you suggest using text within FCP? That’s all I do.
I am not familiar with DVD subtitling, but I know that I may eventually need more than three subtitled languages. Do you suggest that each DVD version is burnt with its own language?
I use no markers to subtitle. I have three layers of text, one with each language. I enable and disable as needed. Will I be able to export later or would I need to start from scratch because i did not use markers to begin with?

Your opinion is appreciated.

Yes, as posted earlier, make the subtitles in FCP 7. Place different languages on different tracks. Then export that seq as XML.
You then need to buy a software called Title Exchange Pro. This can extract your FCP subtitles trackwise and make STL files foe each language. You then import these into DVDStudio Pro, one STL per track.
Then you need to have a menu with buttons for each language which play the video with the selected language track.

You need not make versions of the video with burn-in subtitles.
