Best quality DVD export from Final Cut Pro

Thanks for the advice. If there’s no quality difference between CBR and VBR at 7Mbps (or if CBR is actually better), then I’d just as soon go with CBR because of the faster encoding. I usually have plenty of extra space on my DVD’s, so file size is not an issue.

VBR isn’t any slower than CBR that I’m aware of unless
you opt for more than one pass.

I always encode single pass 3-7mbps vbr and it works perfectly for me.

ok finished encoding the quicktime reference file from compressor to DVD programme stream constant bit rate 8000 which is supposed to be the highest quality, but which programme do you use to burn the dvd?
I use roxio toast it titanium but it reencodes the file again to m2v which a don’t know if it’s messing the file from compressor and takes a lot of time too.

i m editing on final cut pro and i m wondering which are the best settings to export a movie as i want to get the best quality possible.is dv pal 4:3 bad???..when i export in dv pal i get some lines where their is a lot of movement…plzzz help

I still have questions though…
-I get the bit rate issue. between 6-8 MbitsS is fine for most dvd players.

But

I’ve got heaps of time to render, and
I still want to know how to get the best motion and colour in my DVD exports. Preferably a multi-pass hi f*#king quality look. I’m working with an fcp project. sequence is set as a 1024×576 and I’m using a mixture of 1024×576 .mov adds and cross promotional segment for SD Cable TV and SD Movies that I’ve ticked display anamorphic so they too display as wide screen in my sequence. The project is complete, and now I’m exporting it to make a DVD.

I’ve tried a number of different export settings from
Export using Quicktime conversion
Send to Compressor
Just saving a quick time movie at current settings and burning w Toast (6-8 MbitS Variable bitrate).

I’m still not happy with the results. I mean I see DVDs from the video shop that are awsome quality motion and no pixilation anywhere.

My question is, what does it take to get those kind of results?
If money is no object and rendering time is not an issue.

Just a high quality f*#ing DVD as a result.

ok im sending my media directly to compressor and then trying to open it with idvd. will that work i want to make the vidoe loop and have a nice main screen for this promo thing im doing? am i on the right track advice needed 1st time editor

Hey walter. Just a quick question. Once youve completed the first step:

From FCP you simply Export > Quicktime Movie > Current Settings. UN-check “Make Self Contained Movie.”

Is it necessary to bring your finished film into compressor and choose the High Quality 90 minute DVD codec? Can’t you simply burn your exported film to dvd, what are the benefits of this additional step? I don’t normally do this and am genuinely curious!
