[Alf Hanna] “Good catch to Gary, and once again we see Rafael dishing out off the cuff nonsense.

Corrupt projects are much more likely to be the cause than the OS. That’s true in both Apple and Windows products that I’ve used. It points to problems with FCP error handling rather than Apple OS issues. “

    Hey Mr Clever,
From your first word you show that you don’t know what you are talking about.
Your system is made up of millions of Files&Folders, while FC is made up of only few hundred thousands.
The possibilities of having a miss functions arising from the System are 100 TIMES BIGGER than the possibilities of having a miss function coming fro the very FC.
BTW, if you work with Vegas, WHY DO YOU COME TO BRING SHIT to this FC forum?

[Alf Hanna] “You don’t need to go to some expensive third party utility as Rafael suggests. Apple disk utility is plenty good for most issues. I’ve restored corrupt RAID arrays with no problem using it. It finds the issues just fine.”

Disk Utility is pretty weak in terms of fixing issues with the computers except the most basic and I would NEVER allow Disc Utility to touch my RAIDs. We only use Disc Warrior to look at and fix any issues with our RAIDs when needed. Multiple VERY bad experience with Disc Utility and RAIDs in the past keep me from repeating that mistake.

Basic repairs on a single drive, Disc Utility is fine. If you’re having serious issues or corruption, nothing beats Disc Warrior that I’ve found.

Well I sincerely apologize to Raphael, but he has helped me illustrate why trashing folks on support boards, is not useful. When he trashed me a week or so back, I was told by another board member to ‘get a thick skin.” when I do it back, it doesn’t feel as good. Hm? So let’s go forward not trashing people who are looking to get answers for difficult technical questions.

Agreed that Disk Warrior may have features, does have features not in DU, but DU is a good place to start. It’s free. Having used the Apple OS since it *first came out* I have learned to start with free utilities, and buy others as needed.

And to answer Raphael’s question as to why I’m here if I use Vegas is because I use FCP also, being forced to use it because it is the dominant package in the industry. I have a Mac Tower, a mac laptop, and two Windows machines. I have to collaborate with other video folks, and do. FCP is much harder than any package I’ve used in years. It certainly has power, but it comes at a price. I try and use the right tool for the right job, and believe that these things are tools, not religious artifacts.

    Best of luck…

So the reason you say that “I’m dishing out off the cuff nonsenses”, is because we had some disagreement few days ago?
Since them are you reading carefully all my posts looking for something wrong?
If so, you have a problem (again); nothing that can be fixed in any FC forum.
Animosity it doesn’t help to fix bugs and hangs.
Alf, I’m often wrong when trying to answer a question, but I don’t take things out of any cuff, neither I try to sell anything.
You say that you are forced to work with Mac/FC, so I understand that you don’t know much about a platform that you show to dislike.

[Alf Hanna] ” Having used the Apple OS since it *first came out* I have learned to start with free utilities, and buy others as needed. “
Yeah, I understand that you are the kind of people who doesn’t care to use any substandard tool just to safe few dollars.
Comparing the DiskUtility with DW or TT shows that you have no idea about what those applications can do.
Anyway, if you point me to any free application able to do what DW or TT does, I will be very happy to download it and try it.
BTW, I paid some 80 bucks for DW back in 2005. Since them all have been FREE updates.
