    [Tim Kolb] “Interesting.
What was the Windows configuration that was under your deal-breaker system Peter?”

    Hi Tim,

I had (still have for legacy projects) a dual 5420 on a Intel Skulltrail 5400XS mobo, GTX280, 8gb RAM, 4tb RAID-0, etc, etc with a Blackmagic HD Extreme. I feel the interaction between CS4 and the Decklink card has been a major issue. I know Matt and the guys at BMD have been working for a year on a stable platform for CS4 and I would have to say it’s been in the radical re-write and re-coding of CS4 by Adobe that has caused issues.

Funny enough I had to switch to PPro last night to cut an intro for a doco that I’ve cut on FCP, because the image scaling process and title generator in Final Cut Pro 7 is just horrible to use. CS4 kills it for speed and ease. But there’s also much to like about FCP. I’ve already forgotten my Premiere shortcuts in less than a week 🙁

Yeah, I think all the third party developers have had to re-tool significantly with CS4. I use Xena myself and have almost no experience with the Black Magic products, so I can’t shed much light in that area I’m afraid.

I’d agree that the titler in PPro is likely one of it’s most overlooked assets.

I am at a loss to figure out how anybody could build a CS4-friendly system with what Adobe recommends. All they have is a bunch of Display cards there, nothing else that would help you build or buy a ‘recommended’ system. Even the list of display cards is sloppy because they have the same card listed twice.

I built two Windows 7 (Ultimate) 64 bit systems with mostly similar configurations but PPCS4 freezes on an EX1/3 project. The program display window is blank white. Timeline will not move. Asus P6T Deluxe mobo, i920 processor (eight cores!), Nvidia 285 graphics card, NVIDIA 9600 card, 12GB Ram, Raid 0, Soundmax audio, (I have tried different sound cards such as Soundblaster X-Fi, Audigy and cheap $10 cards) 3GB/sec SATA drives aplenty. One of the machines is dual boot with XP, and CS3 Master Collection works without ANY problems in XP or Win7. CS4 (as someone mentioned on a different forum) is like a lottery. If your config works you’ve hit it. But you cannot actively win it! PPCS4 is a terrible program that should not have been released as a paid software as far as I am concerned. I had to pay $15 shipping for a trial CS4 Master Collection because they wouldnt have a downloadable link.
If it ever starts working (I am always hopeful) I will change my opinion. But I may not be able to find out anymore because my trial version says it has expired! May be I need to buy another trial version for another $15 to find out it still doesnt work!

Or CS4PP will only work on a dual processor Xeon system?
