1) Kingston are usually reliable. The important point is to make sure it is a class 8 or better card.

I am glad it worked. Before going for a replacement card I’d try to see if it was an hardware problem with it or just some corrupted file. You already have the .dmg on a drive, so you have a copy of the card content for trying a further recovery . I think you can initialize the card inside the camcorder, shoot a few clips, and see how it works. You can do it a few times, and it everything works fine, you can blame it on a corrupted file or such, saving the card for future use. I can’t help you about the software for converting the mts files to mov at full quality. At the time I had the same problem I downloaded a couple of cheap ones named “AVCHD Converter” and “SmartConverter”, both from the Apple Store, but I remember on of the two was not offering a full quality conversion. I have them at my office, I’ll be there tomorrow and I’ll check.

Scott, just covering a base here, have you possibly renamed any part of the camera card that won’t import? FCPX is looking for a particular file structure. Compare folder names with a card that worked.

No, I never changed anything within the file structure of the suspect card. Still, I would compare the suspect card with a working card if I could, but I have since reformatted the suspect card, which is working normally again. All that remains from the copy of the suspect card I did have are the .MTS files.
By the way, Don— or anyone— can you suggest a tool I can use to convert these .MTS files (in a lossless way) so they become importable by FCPX?

I paid $36 for iSkysoft Video Converter for the Mac and have had good luck with MTS files. Are they lossless? I don’t know but visually indistinguishable from the original. I convert them to ProRes.
You may not know but you want the original file structure because its those other files that will dictate which clips should be reassembled as one (spanning) so that you don’t have a clip ending in the middle of a word and you have to butt the next clip to it to get the full shot.

ClipWrap simply rewraps to QuickTime without recompressing and converts the audio to uncompressed.
