  • Audio problems while editing in multicam…

    Hello all,

With the latest update to Final Cut Pro X (10.0.3) I have been messing around with the new Multicam options. For the most part, everything is working really well and the addition is a godsend (although how it missed the cut in the first place…). But I’m noticing that when I cut to a different angle using the Angle Viewer Window, the only audio that plays is from the clip that is selected. Meaning, if I have three angles that have just on-board audio, and one angle with the recording equipment, it plays the audio for whatever angle is selected. Obviously, I would prefer if it would use only the professional audio feed, rather than the on board garbage, but I can’t seem to find a setting that accommodates this, and I can’t use the “Detach Audio” option like I would before multicam was offered.

Am I missing something? Am I even explaining myself properly? Here is what I am working with…

See how the audio from angle one stops when I cut to angle 2? Is there any way for the audio to stay constant throughout the multicam clip, even though I am switiching angles? The audio from angle 2 was from my wireless unit and brought in separately and then manually synched to the right time (hence why the audio in all of the Angle 2 clips was muted). It worked, but is just kind of a pain to have to do every time. Thus my dilemma.

Thanks in advance for any help you guys can provide.

Are you aware of the icons in the viewer window upper left corner to choose whether you want to switch video and audio, just video or just audio? I would first select what audio source you want to use with the “audio only” option, then select “video only” and start cutting picture only. Works fine for me.

    Best,
    Geoff

Yeah, I actually figured it out by accident by hitting one of those buttons. I had messed with them before, but didn’t get the desired result so I thought they were for something else. Thanks for the info.

I’m having a problem when I switch video angle only I still have a slight hiccup in the Audio. This is a two hour event with audio from the sound board going to the main camera. All files have been optimized and I still get a small glitch on about half the cuts. This continues even after rendering and exporting.

Hey, I just figured out how to get ride of my Legacy Name!

Define “small glitch”. Like, does the audio cut out, make a popping sound, something else? If you watch the raw footage of the feed with the sound-board audio, does make the same glitches in the same spots?

It is a small drop out. All most like one dropped frame. The original file is fine, and if I more the edit point, then the drop out moves with it.

Hmm, the only thing I can think is perhaps delete the file from your Event and Project libraries, then add the file back in. Maybe something get messed up when it get optimized the first time. But if it’s just a one frame audio dropout, can it even be that noticeable?

Well Audio isn’t my strong suite, so it might be more than one frame, but it is noticeable. If I adjust the cuts to happen during a pause, then you can’t tell. The same file plays fine outside of the multi-cam clip. I even tried some J and L cuts with the some shots and that plays through fine. It’s just the multi-cam clips. I am just wondering if anyone else had the same problem?

I am going to be working on some short interviews later today or tomorrow so I will see if I have the same problem.

I am having the same problem. I am not sure what caused this. I have able to use the audio/video switching functionality (three buttons) above the multi-cam views to successfully switch video only on prior projects, but now I am getting a pop/hiccup when I switch angles. Did you ever get this figured out?
