What has AJA said? They should swap put a bad unit for you immediately.

you have just powered up your system, you are sitting there, monitoring the
output of your AJA I/O, and you are doing NOTHING, and you hear random pops and clicks coming out of your speakers. You raise the faders on your mixer
from the AJA I/O, and the pops and clicks increase in volume – correct? You have a defective AJA I/O box. I just had this exact situation. I had the luxury of having 3 systems at this client, and I moved the mystery popping box into another edit room, and the pops and clicks moved with the AJA I/O box. I know how frustrating this can be to diagnose when you only have one system, and one AJA I/O box.
Request another unit.

March 20, 2006 at 5:28 pmThe other possibility is that your audio sync isn’t stable. Pops in a digital line can occur if there’s an unstable clock source or a defective cable. I used to get them occasionally when using the optical outs and my word clock wasn’t stable or in sync. Selecting the optical line for sync would clear up the trouble. You’re using AES, so I’d make sure the cable isn’t the problem.
My 2 cents…
