August 4, 2010 at 2:46 pmTry using a constant bit rate instead of variable.

August 5, 2010 at 3:51 amCan you fill me in on the different “flavors” of an mpeg4 that you mentioned? There is only one mpeg4 template in Compressor. I have copied it and explored different bit rates and frame rates but the video is still not synced up with the audio (video is slow and choppy). Any other suggestions to make a file that can be played from most computers?
thanks so much,
Nate -

August 19, 2010 at 12:25 pmProblem solved. after hours of trial and error randomly changing compression setting it turns out that the key frame interval needs to be set to 30. It is set at 15 on the compressor template.
thanks everyone for your help.

September 13, 2010 at 3:18 pmI exported to MPEG4/H.264 from ProRes footage using Quicktime Conversion (in Final Cut 6 Export menu) for a client who posts to YouTube. The audio sync was way off when I viewed the MP4 in Quicktime Player 7.6.6. But strangely enough — and fortunately — the sound and video are in perfect sync when you view these same MP4 clips uploaded on YouTube!
Go figure. Video is really a weird business, not always wysiwyg (what you see is what you get)!
Anyway, the .MP4s worked for your YouTube purposes. So I think for some reason Quicktime Player was not properly playing the .MP4s.
Try a test (like I did); export your MP4 from 10-15 seconds of your footage and then upload to YouTube; hopefully the sound will be in sync!

December 12, 2011 at 8:36 pmI am having the same issue and after reading your post, I changed the compressor settings for the MP4 to 30 key frames but still had the same issue of it going out sync. Basically the video would start playing in slow motion. I made the MP4 from a Quitctime export, not directly from FCP.
Any suggestions? I have never had this problem before. I am making final outputs for a client for final approval and am really surprised to see this happen.

November 4, 2015 at 2:48 pmHi guys,
So, I recently converted (using compressor) a video file (PAL 25frames per second, full HD file, ProresHQ) to a NTSC 720 x 480 29.97 frames per second.
I now need to get it on the dvd! I can get the video on there but the sound was obviously converted to match the new retimed picture, but as a separate file which I can’t seem to get on the dvd as well.
Would you happen to know how I can get both the Dolby Digital ac3 file and video file on dvd together sync’d?
Thank you in advance to anyone that can help!

November 4, 2015 at 6:10 pmHi John,
Thanks for replying.
I was going use the create dvd preset in Compressor.. but it’s not working.
Would Nero work? Or should I try something else? I would need to use an actual authoring app?

November 4, 2015 at 9:13 pmI still use DVDSP where you’d use your 29.97 mv2 and ac3 to create the track on the DVD. DVDSP works in Mavericks. I haven’t tried it in Yosemite.
