January 10, 2008 at 1:04 pmIf you’re placing subclips (is that what you mean by delimited?) you can remove the subclip’s limit’s with a command in the modify menu… this will allow access to media before and after the subclip’s in and out points.
In the future, don’t use subclipping to determine in and out points… log these subclips FAT… i.e. leave more video on either end than you really intend to use as the true in and out points, and you won’t have to remove the limits on them to add transitions. Subclips should still be put in the Viewer, and new in and outs set within them before you add them to the sequence.

January 10, 2008 at 2:13 pmWhat I am doing is importing a captured clip file, which is approximately one hour of media, and marking so many minutes (3 to 10), by setting in and out points, and dragging same into the canvas. I repeat this process, one after another, until I have all the segments I need for a particular sequence. This leaves many segments in the timeline that are butted together with the out point of the incoming clip butted against the in point of the outgoing clip. Moving the in or out point on any of these clips in the timeline would change the size of the clip but would not result in any unused media.

January 11, 2008 at 3:14 amPicture a 60 minute clip in the viewer. Set in and out points for 3 minute portion and drag it to the canvas. Find another 4 minute clip and mark it with in and out points and drag it to the canvas. Now the sequence has two clips butted together. The out point of the outgoing is butted against the in point of the incoming clip. A transition can not be placed where the two clips come together, and there is no way to add media after the out point of the outgoing clip or in front of the in point of the incoming clip for purposes of a fade. What is the best way to get transitions to work and salvage as much of this process as possible.
