August 5, 2018 at 12:41 amHi there,
I just started an online business for selling stock footage last year. I’m actually a full-time graphic designer but started it to make some extra cash on the side. You can find us at the link below.
To answer your questions about my experiences so far please see below.
Is it a sideline? Are you making it part of your core business?
Yup, completely the core of my business, and source of revenue. As I mentioned, it is a side job though.Who are you working with?
When I first started, I thought of going through a vendor to sell my footage like Video Blocks. But after submitting to a few places, my footage never sold or got noticed on their sites. So as of now, I’m just selling through my website. What are you selling?
Primarily nature shots, household items. Anything that is easy to record and looks nice. I also recorded some visual effects/overlays like sparks and bokeh. And how’s it going?
Okay, since I just started I’m getting my feet wet. The only problem I’m running into is trying to find the customers that want my product. Where are they, and how to convince them it’s a good deal. It’s also hard to compete against the big companies like Shutterstock, Digital Juice, and VideoBlocks. Especially trying to get noticed via SEO. -

November 28, 2019 at 3:17 amHi!
I know this is an old thread but I just wanted to bring it back to clarify some things, I hope you guys can help me with this. I’m in a opportunity to film jungle wildlife in a national reserve in south america, and the idea is to sell the footage online. There is just some information I can’t find and is important for me: how many clips you uploaded in an average month and how many of those clips were sold? How much income did you make in that month?
That way I think I can have a rough but better understanding of the amount of work that is needed and if the incomes are worth it.
Here is a video I made for the company which I’m working with. These are the type of shots I’m making as a reference. Any feedback is welcome!

November 29, 2019 at 7:22 pmI have about 100 clips up on Pond5 and only about 10 of them have sold. And only 3 of them sell regularly. I imagine the more you have the more likely you are to sell. Keep in mind if it is just a variation of the same clip then it won’t help you to post a million of them. I think I average around $300 a year. Hope this information helps and best of luck.
