https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FoamcoreI see problems with the corners, fillets, chamfers (rounded bits) of a truck bumper, as well as the durability.
I’d forget about the spinning bumper macho shot. Drop it from the shot list. There. You’ve cut something because of time and budget constraints. Now you’re a filmmaker. 🙂

February 27, 2008 at 1:47 amwould it be feasible to make one out of wood? there is a wood shop in my school and I plan on asking my former teacher to help me with this perhaps? We can even spray paint it and what not.
I dont know if that is good or not?
thanks!

Foam boards can be glued together with adhesive for thickness and I have heard of sculptors freezing foam in ice and then sculpting with saws and files for really nice edges and contours. -

February 27, 2008 at 1:03 pmI think that would be heavier than a real bumper, no?
Butch might be on to something: glue together multiple layers of foamcore at the corners, then sculpt it to get the smooth corners. You can also use styrofoam. Get an art student to do it — you have enough to do, and directors need practice delegating this kind of thing.
I recommend you go to a prop forum for this — we’re not talking about AE any more.
