November 26, 2005 at 4:26 amwhy not just nest first and apply the widescreen matte filter to the nest?
going back to your original problem. when you open matte clip in the viewer is the alpha channel displayed? (View > Channels > Alpha)
what happens if you open the matte clip into After Effects, does that work?

Debe,
That’s the beauty of my book. It doesn’t NEED to be updated to version 5. Why? Not much at all has changed between v.4 and v.5. HDV support and multicam have no bearing on FX creation. All the same FX creation principles have been there since FCP 1, so that is why I didn’t include a version number when writing the book. You can use the same principles for creating fx and getting into advanced workflow no matter which version you are using.
If Apple completely revamps their FX scheme, then that is the day my book will take a hit. 😉

November 26, 2005 at 9:40 pmAhh, very good to know, Kevin–
I wasn’t sure if they’d relocated things to other menus and such, that’s usually what gets me with tutorials. Things get moved from one version to the next and the tutorials don’t always get updates. This makes it frustrating to find things when you don’t know what you’re looking for, ‘cos if you knew what you were looking for, then you probably don’t need the tutorial!
So, if all is where we left it, then that IS the beauty of it!
