What about LaCie? The triple-interface?
Thanks,

August 4, 2006 at 5:29 pmLaCie isn’t a drive manufacturer. They make drive case and install drives inside them. Typically they use Maxtors or Western Digital drives…or Hitachi’s on occassion. You never know what you’ll get.

I’m curious why you didn’t use the popSataRAIDsicle as an external SATA array? My concern would be both heat generation and power availability inside the Mac.
thanks,

August 14, 2006 at 10:19 pmPower: I use a Y-splitter to split the power being fed to the optical to power the other drives. This works fine, and is, in fact, how the other commercially sold 3-drive internal mounting units do it. No problems yet.
Cooling. They sit in front of the fans so they get good airflow. And I spaced them (the popsicle sticks are merely to hold them apart) so there is good air flow. Again, the G5 Jive from Sonnet is basically a metal cage and cables that you assemble and put exactly where I put mine. There is another product whose name is eluding me at the moment that has an extra fan below the drives for additional cooling. But I haven’t had any problems. The fans kick on more often than they used to, and NOW my G5 i a heater (where before it ran cool)…but everything is running smooth.
Why not External? Well, I’d need to get a power supply for them for one….and fans. No, if I went external I’d get a box, like the 500p or 400p from Sonnet, Silver SATA from Weibetech or a Firmtek solution.
