September 8, 2006 at 5:41 pmI have a dual xeon with 2 gigs, and AE was slow about the same as you posted turns out my problem was way too many fonts I had 7000 of them, I bought a program from extensis called suitcase which allows you to make them invisible to windows until you turn them on when needed. you can turn fonts on individualy or a bunch at a time, hope this helps.

September 8, 2006 at 6:58 pmSeriously? That’s what solved it for you??? How strange.
I have quite a few fonts, but no where close to 7,000. Maybe 1,000?

September 8, 2006 at 7:25 pmyep, AE 7 was slow to load seemd like it hanged, to do anything within a comp sometimes was slower then molases(hour glass was there for a few minutes), and it would be slow to shut down took about 2 to 3 minutes to shut down, installed that program(suitcase) and all problems went away. Like I said I have way too many fonts you have 1000 or so. but at any rate the program is like 70 or so dollars I bought it after someone had suggested the font overload might be my problem and it worked. But if after you have tried everything to fix the prob and it still exist you might want to try my option. Worked for me can’t say it will cure what ails your system.
