I think what you’re seeing is the gamma shift that happens when you export to DVD. I’m surprised more people don’t report back on this. What you’re probably seeing is your black levels cranked up now beyond what they were before.

I find that a lot of tweaking is necessary when going to MPEG-2 and it’s different show to show.

In your MPEG-2 settings in Compressor, try adjusting (for starters) the gamma to 1.2
