That is correct when you are working with Square pixels. If you are working with NTSC pixels, 720×480 is 4×3.

Hi Malcolm,
So what camera did the material come from? DV NTSC 4×3 is 720×480, but these are rectangular pixels. NTSC is NOT square pixels.Cheers

This issue it happens with every kind of material, graphics included. Is just that when you make a movie smaller than 352×288, QT player set some strange side black bands.
