March 16, 2015 at 5:17 amI am also having issues with my 5DkII freezing and only battery removal fixes the problem.
This has recently started when I fitted a Tamron 150-600 lens. The lens has a two stage focus range,
Full or 15m to infinity. Switching from one to the other causes a freeze up sometimes.
Any comments or thoughts? -

July 6, 2015 at 12:39 amHave you tried removing the battery and then replacing it.
This has a different effect to just turning the camera off and on.
Works for me. -

July 6, 2015 at 8:52 amhi peter, yes battery has been out all night, still the same issue. I fear its a firmware issue.. the cpntrols all work in full auto mode and in p, tv, av, m and b and c nothing works although it will take a picture if you are in mannual focus.. i cant even update the firmware as you do not have that option in auto mode and i cannot restore to factory settings as again in auto mode you dont have that option… i am not hugely techy and i am stuck in the bush in botswana with very limited resources! Thanks for responding!

October 26, 2017 at 4:23 pmI would like to add that I have had the 5D Mark III in my possession since it came out. It’s been a fabulous body with no issues. Shot numerous video with no difficulties. Except last week. I’m working on a workout video for a client, and I had three camera set up one of them being my 5D that I was using to shoot B roll, and it froze\locked up to the point where I had to take the battery out give it a few minutes before putting the battery back in and turning it on. This happened over 11 times within half an hour. I’ve never seen this happen before so I did some investigating, and it seems it’s linked to the SD card I was using. It was a SanDisk ultra 32 GB. I believe it was not fast enough to be able to record the video. Therefore was freezing and locking down. The next session I used the Lex are professional card with a fast rate speed with no issues whatsoever! There for I believe if you’re running into this issue I would double check the card you’re using in your camera. Hope that helps!
