[Ian Liuzzi-Fedun] “I am recording real time from a switcher into FCP. the switcher is a for-a and the For-a is set to 1080i 59.94. I have heard there is no real difference between 59.94 an 29.97. How should FCP be set to capture into DVCPro HD – 59.94 or 29.97?”

    For 1080i it’s 29.97.

I would like to personally strangle the person who decided to designate 1080i HD as “59.94”

See in 1080i, you have 60 FIELDS of information that make 30 frames of video in one second.

In 720p you have 60 FRAMES of video in one second.

So I guess someone who had 59.94 envy decided we should call Standard Definition by it’s true 29.97 FRAMES PER SECOND frame rate but call High Definition by it’s 59.94 FIELDS PER SECOND frame rate.

If anyone knows who this brilliant person is, I would love to meet them. Really, just to shake their hands or something…..
