April 27, 2019 at 10:38 pmThe Facebook professional forums are quickly evolving into the primary location for dialogue and one primary reason for that is the user interface. It’s tailor made for quick question and answers and easy notifications.
No disrepsect intended to the fantastic community that has thrived here for so long but it is what it is. In addition, this shift has occurred simultaneously with the death of the NLE debate.

I think a very large part of FB’s appeal is that it’s a one stop shop. You can connect with work, family and friends all in one spot. It’s kinda like shopping at the mall because it’s easier than going to a number of different shops all over town.
Personally I think FB is horrible for trying to find information. Their algorithm decide what you see and how you see it. If I pull up FB on my phone and FB on my laptop the posts in the feeds won’t even be ordered the same way. If someone is posting a problem the response on FB or Twitter will probably be faster than on dedicated sites like the COW or FCP.co, but trying to go back and find already existing information can be a real PITA. It can be an information black hole at times.

April 29, 2019 at 12:54 pmFB is horrible.
All I see on there regarding NLE’s is.. “whats better ? Mac or PC?”
questions like , “my computer wont turn on, halp!?” etc.
When X has a significant update with some new features I’m sure this place will be popping again.

You’re simply not going to the more focused forums then. There’s a wealth of great information and problem solving happening on the Facebook professional forums. And there’s virtually no Mac vs PC debate which is refreshing.

Amen to this.
Even after 7 years of high level X operation daily, there’s seldom a day goes by where I don’t learn something useful on the professional X Facebook groups.I totally get those who don’t want to be tracked and sold Facebook style – but I find the people and conversations worth way more than the annoyance of having my eyeballs turned into a commodity. It’s not like I’m going to prevent that in modern society. That ship sailed back when I learned that I could buy a computer dump of people who had registered a particular brand of car a few years back – in order to pitch them on an upgraded model. And that was about 1972.
Oh well.

April 29, 2019 at 7:01 pmThere are some garbage questions in the FCPX groups on FB from time to time. I had to intervene as moderator at times due to some trolls. One thing is that some people post the same question across multiple groups looking for an answer. The response time can be fast but the quality of answers are not always great.
The problem is some members get defensive and attack the moderators.
One example: “I won’t join any more groups because most of the people on these groups are unprofessional with unsympathetic, lame answers. [Name redacted] doesn’t listen well.”
We had one member even complain about censorship and whine about being put into moderation because his posts needed approval. That policy applies to everyone to cut down on spam. He left before he got banned.
No matter what forum you join, regardless of the website there will be slow times and attention seeking trolls. My two cents. Carry on and be cool.

April 30, 2019 at 12:56 pmOf course.
Forums are often used by members for problem solving.
And someone having a problem – particularly a problem connected to a deadline – can be stressed and, well, a bit tetchy.Goes with the territory.
