Graphics are absolutely stuck to 8b RGB Stills (Targa, PNG). It seems that is difficult for them to move to QT movies. They don’t care about 10 or 16 b and a better Alpha channel.

[Rafael Amador] “When say 444 we must refer to YUV (YCbCr) codecs. By “nature” all the RGB codecs are 444.”

Sorry but that is not correct.
444 codecs can be either RGB or YUV

[Rafael Amador] “You can not down-sample RGB as can be done with YUV.
In RGB every pixel have a value for R, G and B.
In YUV every pixel have a Y’ value, but no necessarily Cb and CR.”

once again this is incorrect when discussing color compression.

4:4:4 codecs maintain that for every sample taken there are equal numbers of samples take for ALL VAULES whether they are Chroma samples or Luma only samples. So when using a 4:4:4 codec in EITHER YUV or RGB – all values are sampled an equal number of times.

You ca call it as you want Gary..
In a color space (RGB) where there is not room for any 422, 420 or 411 scheme makes no sense to talk about 444.
422, 420 or 411 is not feasible in RGB color space. What information you intend to discharge from every 4 pixels block? R? G? B?
I haven’t heard of any 422, 420 or 411 RGB coded so far. Did you?

I’m wanting to render and move 16 bit files from AE (PC) and color correct and edit on FC (Mac) with a finished product using ProRes – is the image sequence the way to go for the transer to Mac?

    Thanks

You also have a codec call MICROCOSM that makes 16b QT movies.
Beware that FC do not support 16b.
