April 24, 2013 at 3:47 amRoland, I read this conversation, but I’m quite a newbie at anything involving tracking. I do have AE6, however. Is there a set of tutorials or pages where I can get some step by step directions to creating a tracking title, actually several titles, which do exactly what yours does with that cyclist, that is, move with the subject while the camera is also moving? And be able to be masked partially by the subject? It looks terrific by the way.
Thanks, Michael

April 25, 2013 at 1:13 amI use mocha almost exclusively for 2D tracking. For 3D tracking, it’s a combination of mochaPro and AE CS6. Checkout the Help Menu for links to AE’s 3D Camera Tracker.
There are lots of very good mocha tutorials on the Imagineer Website and even here at the COW. For AE’s CS6 3D Camera Tracker, there are lots of good ones out there although I’ve yet to see one that encompasses object tracking, which is essentially what I was doing here.
FWIW, AE’s 3D Camera Tracker isn’t designed for object tracking. However, in this example, the camera and the tracking object are moving at a relatively similar pace. Additionally, the tracking doesn’t require a very strict requirement for precision due to the nature of the effect (floating text). Both the similar movement and less stringent requirement for precision made AE’s 3D Camera Tracker a viable option.
