  multicam tips?

  Hello all,

  I’ve finished shooting my first 2-camera video.

  Before I dive into multicam edit functionality of Vegas 9, is there any advice / tips you could share?

  I’m no expert but I had a hell of a time with 2 soundtracks and only needing one, so I asked on this forum how to separate them. Bingo, a very quick response. here is my version: in the trimmer you can select which track audio or video, or both, you take down to the timeline, then you can adjust (push/pull) the vision (2 tracks) to sync the sound. Alternately, on the timeline you can ungroup or regroup stuff and lift out the segments that you don’t want….magic. This last tool is really useful as you slide stuff along and back.

  I’ll keep that in mind. I wonder what advantage there is to using the Ultimate S3 plugin which contains an enhanced multicam function?

  Color correct or apply effects to your clips in the project media level. When you create the multicam track to edit, all effects that may be applied at the clip or event level will be lost, but effects at the project level are intact.

  and is there a way to edit one of the source if needed after the multicam edit?
  Like adding an effect on camera 1 for example without adding the effect on all the segments from camera 1 but just to the source then the effect is repeated automatically for each segment?

  I might be a little fuzzy on what you mean. Whenever I am doing multicam work, I would have 1 file for each camera, so I only have to deal with one file in the project. Are you asking about multiple events from one camera? I haven’t tried it nor do I know if it is possible… but as you would do on the timeline (copy the first event and select the following events and right click, paste event attributes… I don’t know if you can do that in the project media bin. I won’t be at my editing computer for another 8 hours to try…..anyone else with some insight on this?

  Hi again John,

  I’m trying what you suggested and am having challenges.

  I’ve created my multicam video track (with 2 takes switching back and forth). Now I’d like to color correct one of them. So I went to the project media, applied an effect (color correcton types, brightness, etc) but the result is not seen.

  What am I doing wrong? I hope I don’t have to apply the effect BEFORE I do my multicam edits as I’ve spent hours selecting the takes combination :).

  Got it to work.

  When I’m in multicam edit mode, the split screen doesn’t show the effect being applied but ,,,, they actually are. When exiting multicam edit, all is well.

  hello

  so it works, you can edit the camera 1 without any problem?
  Like adding a color correct on camera 1 after the multicam edit and all the cuts are color corrected?

  Going to try right away because I couldn’t achieve it last time I tried.

  Does it work with an “event pan/crop”? (like making a small zoom for the camera 1 duration)

  Yes, make sure you apply the fx at the clip level, in project media.
