  Rendering to DVD

  Hi,

  I’ve been searching and reading on rendering set up but I can’t seemed to get acceptable result. I hope someone can point out my problem.

  First of all, I’m new to Vegas and the video editing world. So bear with me.

  I’m trying to edit some footage of my family vacation from Yellowstone. The footage is from a Canon HF10 that my bro-in-law took. He doesn’t remember the setting, but when I use Vegas to check the MTS files, it said 1920x1080ix32 @ 29.97fps. So I made my project to this spec with upper field first.

  Here’s my work flow.

  1. dropped the MTS files to the timeline.
  2. edited the footages
  3. applied effects
  4. added sounds(music)
  5. rendered to DVD

  The result that I got is not what I expected. I can live with the quality of the DVD, but there is a very thin line running from top of the screen to the bottom of the screen, randomly. There is also a random shaky on certain area of the video when I watched the DVD. I’ve tried most of the render settings but still not getting rid of the problems. Here are some of my settings (from memory ’cause I’m at work).

  1. I’ve tried checking/unchecking the footage property (mainly disable/enable the smart rendering, and reduce flicker for interlace)
  2. rendered to Maincept mpeg2 using DVD NTSC/DVD NTSC for DVDA
  3. some how the default is lower field first, but I changed to upf. I also tried lff and progressive.
  4. rendered as constant vbr of 7Mbps
  5. rendered at “Best” for quality
  6. most of other settings are at default
  7. I also tried unchecking the insert i-frame

  I am using Vegas 9d and DVDA5. Also, one more question on DVDA. I’m getting a kind of blur menu on the DVD when put it in the player. Is this normal?

  Lastly, my system is a dinosaur. Please help. Thanks.

  When people start changing settings is where they usually get into trouble. Vegas works perfectly right out-of-the-box. If you have HD footage you should set your project to: HD 1080-60i (1920×1080, 29.970 fps). Make sure that your Deinterlace method is set to Blend Fields. Don’t change any other project settings. Then render to DVD using the MPEG2 template: DVD Architect NTSC Widescreen video stream and your audio to Digital Dolby AC3. Don’t touch anything else. Don’t tweak anything else. Don’t change any fields orders. Just let Vegas do it’s thing and it should look great.
