  • Animating an object along a rounded/curled path…?

Posted by David Lincoln brooks on May 2, 2010 at 12:38 am

    I have a masked-out still image of a hand holding a pencil.

I want that image to move across the Preview screen in rounded or curlicued motions…

It’s easy to keyframe an object to have linear– and thus jerky– motions…. Is it possible to animate along a curved path to get rounded, smooth motions over time?

In the 3D environment (such as Maxon CINEMA 4D), they’d call this “animating along a spline”.

Is there any approach comparable in VEGAS PRO 9.0d?

    Thanks, DAVE

    Unfortunately no.
There only alternative is LOTS and LOTS of keyframes.

Mike’s response is correct, but if your “spline” is not too demanding try setting a keyframe at the start and end, and at the apex of each curved segment and set smoothness to 100 for each keyframe. Also experiment with each keyframe type, starting with linear. Unfortunately, this is the best you can do with Vegas.

Our very own D. Eric Franks has an excellent tutorial titled Vegas Keyframe Interpolation Envelopes that may help you out in your quest.

There is a plugin that allows you to work with splines in Vegas: Boris FX
